La Quebrada Cliff Divers

Acapulco is located on a deep, semi-circular bay and was built on a narrow strip of low ground, scarcely half a mile (800 m) wide, between the shoreline and the lofty mountains that encircle the bay to the north and east. Archeological evidence shows that Acapulco has been inhabited since before 3000 BC.
Acapulco has hosted yachting as part of the 1968 Summer Olympics. The city was devastated by Hurricane Pauline in 1997. In recent times the city has been blighted by spiraling violent crime and drug trafficking. Generally, Acapulco offers a very good nightlife. Its main clubs are considered to be the Alebrije (the largest in Latin America), Palladium, and the Baby´O which many consider as the best nightclub in Acapulco, and El Clássico – coming from the original club located in Mexico City – it is very popular among the elite youth from the capital.
La Quebrada Cliff Divers club was formed in 1934 and they are well known world wide. The World Cliff Diving Championships are also held in La Quebrada. I was always fascinated by high divers but when I visited La Quebrada and saw these young guys (and girls), some of them less than 10 years old, I was stunned! I guess I don’t need to mention that this is not just a regular jump to the pool right? Considering the fact that the bay is only about 10 meters wide and that they must coincide with the waves to avoid touching the bottom of the shallow water while executing their acrobatic stunts in the air is insane! Ohh and let’s not forget that the cliff is 45 meters high!
